Carrying the Legion's Legacy Into a New Generation

This is not your grandfather's American Legion Post.

At Joe Foss Post 97, we're here for you, not the other way around. We understand that life after military service comes with its own set of challenges — work, school, raising a family, and finding your footing in civilian life often leave little room for anything else. That's exactly why our Post is different.

We're a service-oriented community that honors the sacrifices of both the warrior and the family who supported them along the way. We've been there and done that, and we know what it means to reconnect, rebuild, and find purpose after separation from the military.

When you join our American Legion Family, you become part of something bigger: a diverse, welcoming network of veterans and their loved ones who genuinely have each other's backs. Getting connected with us may be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Who Can Join
If you've served on federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941 — and were honorably discharged or are still serving today — you're eligible to join the American Legion, the largest veterans organization in the world with over 2 million members.

Mission

It is the mission of San Tan Valley American Legion Post 97 to fully utilize the talents of our member veterans and community partners to develop and effectively implement programs that will benefit veterans, their families, the community, and the youth of San Tan Valley.

Vision

Post 97 members see a future of full engagement with the surrounding community, culminating in the construction of a community center that can become a base for the programs that help keep our veterans, families, and youth moving in a positive direction with a sense of appreciation for the patriotism represented by this nation’s veterans.

our values

Post 97 member values are built on six foundational principles: embracing all veterans, selfless service, American values and patriotism, family and community engagement, advancing the vision, and honoring those who came before us.

Today, the No. 1 issue facing the veteran community is suicide. The mission of The American Legion's Be The One initiative is to reduce the number of veterans and servicemembers lost to suicide. We're leading the effort to reduce the stigma associated with mental health treatment, providing free suicide prevention training and empowering everyone to take appropriate action when a veteran or service member may be at risk – one life at a time.

Whether you're a veteran, military spouse, or a friend or family member of a veteran, you can Be The One.
